Cinisi is a town and a comune in the province of Palermo in Sicily with about 12.000 inhabitants. The airport of Palermo in the area of Punta Raisi belongs to Cinisi.
In Cinisi they celebrate every year a little Carnival but its even more famous for its cows "La Vacca Cinisara", some kind of skinny, black longhorns but very tasty.
Cinisi is also famous for the anti-mafia activist Giuseppe Impastato, killed in Cinisi in 1978 and of course "Don Tano", Gaetano Badalamenti, a powerful member of the Sicilian Mafia. Don Tano Badalamenti was the capofamiglia of his hometown Cinisi, Sicily, and headed the Sicilian Mafia Commission in the 1970s. In 1987 he was sentenced in the United States to 45 years in federal prison for being one of the leaders of the so-called Pizza Connection. He died in April 29, 2004.
